Planning for a new Downtown Pasco Transit Center has been ongoing since 2018 when it was identified in the 2018-2023 Transit Development Plan. The Transit Center will serve residents of east Pasco and downtown businesses by providing a highly accessible connection to downtown employment centers, shopping, and healthcare facilities and access to BFT’s METRO routes, providing efficient access to the entire regional transit network. BFT was awarded a WSDOT Regional Mobility Grant in 2019 to begin planning, obtain a site, design, and construct the facility. In 2022, Ben Franklin purchased the vacant, former bank site on N. 11th Ave between W. Clark St. and W. Bonneville St. (see map below). BFT then started a planning and concept design project to develop a publicly-supported concept design for the Transit Center that may be carried forward into design and construction.
The project has engaged a diverse stakeholder committee, consisting of the City of Pasco, Downtown Pasco Development Authority, Pasco Chamber of Commerce, Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Latin Business Association, Lakeview Community and Tierra Vida neighborhoods, and has guided Ben Franklin Transit. The committee has guided to alignment of the project with existing and planned downtown improvements, supported the development of the project objectives, and initial concepts, and selected a draft preferred concept (see visualization below).
